Overview
The Chevening Healthcare, Health Policy, and Health Reform Fellowship is funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office.
It’s for mid-career health and social policy professionals from China, who are interested in undertaking research that aligns with the UK’s global health priorities.
The fellowship will take place at the University of Oxford.

The Chevening Healthcare, Health Policy, and Health Reform Fellowship offers a unique opportunity for three exceptional candidates to enhance their professional development through research.
As part of this fellowship, you will be expected to complete a paper of up to 10,000 words in English. Research topics should align with the UK’s global health priorities, including the following topics, which support health policy collaboration areas for the UK and China:
- Innovation to support ageing societies
- Reducing antimicrobial resistance through a ‘one-health approach’
- Developing low-carbon health systems
- Vaccines, therapeutics, and diagnostics for emerging, evolving, or established diseases
- Reducing the impact of climate change on health
During your time in Oxford, you will be hosted by the Department for Continuing Education. You will receive both academic and pastoral support from the Oxford faculty and will be entitled to attend open lectures, seminars, and other academic activities on the same basis as other visiting fellows.
*Should you wish to enrol or participate in a course, activity, or conference outside of what is available to visiting fellows, you will be individually responsible for any related fees/costs.
After completing the fellowship, you will be expected to contribute to discussion around the ongoing health and social policy reform in China.

Eligibility
In addition to meeting our standard eligibility criteria, you must:
- Be a citizen of China, currently live in the country, and intend to return to China at the end of the period of study
- Hold a postgraduate (PG) level qualification (or equivalent professional training or experience in a relevant area) at the time of application
- Have at least five years’ work experience prior to applying or be currently enrolled as a PhD candidate (PhD must not be with a UK/EU or USA university)
Funding and benefits
Each fellowship includes:
- Full programme fees
- Living expenses for the duration of the fellowship
- Return economy airfare
- Allowance package for research-related activities
